Way back in 1973 Alex and David kept a variety of birds including Canaries, Zebra Finches, Bengalese, Parakeets, and Budgerigars. It was about this time that they joined their local Coventry Cage Bird Society, and now thirty years later they are not only still members but also are still very active within that society. They have both been honoured to be President of the society. David has been show manager for many years, and Alex together with his wife Maureen are the secretary/treasurers. The Warwickshire BS is another club to benefit from their loyalty. Again Alex serves as secretary/treasurer, and is a past president, David is show manager, and is also a past president. The Midland Budgerigar Society is their local area society, and it is of no surprise that they are involved in this society. Alex is a past President, past Patronage Secretary, and current Treasurer. David is current Show Manager, and a past President. An award they are both justifiably proud of is being awarded the Silver Bird of the M.B.A, an award made in recognition of outstanding service to the society. Alex is the Area Society Nominated Councillor of the Budgerigar Society. They graduated to the Champion Section in 1988, and exhibited as Champions for the first time at the Budgerigar World Show held at Blackpool in 1988..Judging birds as never been an ambition of Alex, but Dave loves judging, and is proud of winning the trophy, for Best Trainee Judge when he took his subsidiary judges Final Test in Doncaster in 1991. David has been accessing Judges on their final test at Doncaster for several years. The highlights of his judging are being selected to Judge the BS Club Show on three occasions, the BS Convention at Eastboume in June 2000. Dave has also judged the National Exhibition. The highlights of the partnership on the show bench are Winning Best Budgerigar Opposite Sex Young Bird in Show with a Grey Green hen in 2001. Winning Best Budgerigar in Show at the M.B.A and the South Midlands Area Society Shows in 2002. They followed this in 2005 by winning Best Young Bird in Show at the same two shows.
